We just came back from a wonderful day in  Venice. The sun was shining, there was a light breeze, there were not so many people around.  First we went to visit Casa Goldoni, the birth house of the famous Venetian playwriter.

I have to say it was a bit dissapointing (only 3 rooms to see), but it was so nice for once to visit a museum with no-one around pushing you to get in front.  The house is a typical Venetian style 3 storey building, very close to San Tomà vaporetto stop.

After that we took a short walk to Ca’ Pesaro (San Stae vaporetto stop) which houses the museum of Contemporary art and the museum of Oriental arts. The museums are very very interesting, above all the Oriental Arts one houses a very big collection of Japanese Medieval weapons, household goods and various vases etc. Very strange to see so much of  Japan in a Venetian building. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take any pictures, so I will only post pictures of the Gran Canal vaporetto ride.

After that we walked to the train station and because our son was very hungry we decided to pay a visit to a friend’s new take away place in Lista di Spagna.

Well, this has been the real discovery of the week.  Bear in mind I am Italian and obviously I am very particular about my food (as all Italian can be), I have to say finally in Venice there is a real cheap but good take-away.

The place is called QB which stands for Quanto Basta (it means Just Enough). I asked Adriana, the owner, what she meant by that. She explained that everytime people asked her how did she manage to make such good food, she replied ” I just put enough of it’, not actually telling people how much of the bloody stuff she did really put in. So she decided to use it as her logo! The food is great, varied and quite cheap for Venice.  The place is like a mini-food hall : there is a Pizza section , a Kebab section, an ice-cream section (60 different flavours, all home-made)

. The place is brand new, very very clean, there is a small back garden and the staff are extremely nice. Adriana was happy to make us try everything (my stomach is still so full): we had pizza, kebab,milk-shake and ice-cream.  Have to say, great place to grab something to eat in Lista di Spagna and make your way toward Rialto. Adriana makes the biggest kebabs I have ever seen (we actually weighed one and it was nearly 1 Kg.)

for just 5 euros and the pizzas are just like pizzas should be (not microwaved), you actually can see their pizzaiolo making them for you.

I recommend definetely this place to all of you who want to eat well and the Italian way, but do not want to spend a bomb or are in a hurry.

The place is located a couple of doors before Hotel Zecchini on the left side of Lista di Spagna (coming from the train station).

Do pay them a visit, you will not regret it!
