In March I return to Venice for a five-week stay, primarily to continue research at the Correr and Fondazione Cini for a book about the annus mirabilis of Italian opera, 1641-42, but I would very much like to continue working on my spoken Italian during my stay. I will be staying in an apartment in Cannaregio near the Ca' d'oro. Ideally I would meet with a tutor two or three days a week for an hour's conversation and instruction; it would be wonderful to talk with a native Veneziano/a! However, I am traveling alone - leaving my husband and young adult sons home - just to experience it. Do you have any suggestions for meeting an English speaking or even an Italian - slowly speaking person or persons even just to meet for a lunch or a dinner? Or any other thoughts. I look forward to being on my own, but worry a little about feeling isolated. Any suggestions would be great - thanks very much.
