Carnival Treasure Hunt in Venice

The Venice Carnival is officially starting on 26th January, but in Venice it unofficially started on 7th January. From Monday 7th January, all the local bakeries and patisseries have been displaying and selling frittelle and galani, the typical Carnival Venetian sweets, for the pleasure of locals and tourists alike. I simply adore frittelle, so much so that last year with the help of an American friend, we embarked onto a Frittelle marathon: you can read about it here.

I am looking forward to this year’s Carnival: 2012 has been quite a bad year for everyone and usually the Carnival which follows a bad year is always amazing!

As you can see from my previous post, the program for the Carnival is already packed with lots of events: parades, flying people, masquerades, concerts and much more. And this year there will also be something different too: A TREASURE HUNT!

This year L’Altra Venezia has organized a treasure hunt in Venice: an amazing itinerary through the calle and the campielli solving riddles while discovering Venice with fun (possibly with a mask and costume).

There will be group departures as well as couples or as individuals departures on the basis of the turn-up and the demand. The introduction and the explanation of the itinerary will be in French, English, German, Italian. The experience will last about 1 hour (give or take). The cost is euro 60.00.

At the end of the treasure hunt the first three prize winners will receive a typically Venetian artifact.

At the end of the hunt, there will be a buffet with typical Venetian drinks, in the living rooms of the first floor of Palazzo Nani Bernardo.

Fun for all: children and adult alike, participant of all ages can take part, costumes and masks are welcome (I personally would say: they should be a must!)

The meet-up is at 15:00 ( 3pm), then there will be the composition of the teams, the distribution of the maps, the explanation of the game rules and all relative information about the game.

The location of the start is from Palazzo Nani Bernardo, which can be accessed from the Grand Canal by boat or taxi, or by land from Calle Bernardo.

At 15:30 (3.30pm) there will be the start of the game and the fun!

The game finishes at approximately 17:00 (5pm), returning to the Palazzo. Here all the completed cards will be checked and the awards will be delivered to the top 3 winners. The award ceremony will be followed by drinks in the living rooms on the main floor of Palazzo Nani Bernardo.

L’Altra Venezia can provide transportation by boat to reach the palace or a guide service on foot (just inquiry when booking)

After the treasure hunt, you can attend a masquerade ball or a private dinner in a Venetian home.
