Sunday 7th of June 2009 my husband and I, together with our son and a friend of his went to visit the Oasis WWF Valle Averto on the SS 309 (The Romea), the road which connects Venice with Chioggia. It was a beautiful experience: first we took few rounds on a cart

pulled by horses around the local Agriturismo http://www.agriturismoveneto.org/node/637

then went all around the oasis with a very very nice and prepared guide from the WWF. The visit lasted about 1 hour and the guide (a very nice young Venetian girl) explained all about the nature (animals and plants) of this beautiful fishing valley (used to be hunting valley). We even visited an old hut

which is used for bird watching and keeping a count of all different species passing through the lagoon. We managed to see some beautiful bird and were told that foxes, squirrels and many other mammals live in the area

. At the end of the visit, the kids and my husband were allowed to ride the hoses and they had a great time. Definetely a hidden treasure of the Venetian coast. http://www.wwf.it/client/render.aspx?content=0&root=1373
